AllJetVac versatility pays off on big root clearing projects
Profile 08 : Statesville, NC
The city of Statesville, North Carolina, tries to get the most out of every piece of equipment it purchases. That’s important for this city of around 24,000 residents, operating on a limited budget while also facing the same infrastructure maintenance challenges that cities of all sizes must deal with – including removing heavy root growth to keep sewer lines flowing.
The Vacall versatility advantage
To tackle its big root problem, General Supervisor Clyde Fox combined the advantages of the city's Vacall AllJetVac combination sewer cleaner along with an easement machine and a chain cutter.
The AllJetVac is a high-performance, proven performer for municipalities, sewer service companies and industrial cleaning contractors. The addition of an easement machine with a rubber track undercarriage effectively extends the Vacall's power to remote off-road locations not readily accessible by the Vacall truck. "With an easement machine, the jetting hose can reach beyond 600 feet, giving you another 600," said Pat Barrett, salesman for Rodders and Jets Supply Co., which provided the city with the Vacall. "I had a big root cleanout problem, and I found out the Vacall delivered a higher level of performance to power the chain cutter down in the 24-inch mainline," said Fox. "The Vacall delivers 87 gallons per minute at 2,000 psi … a lot more than other machines … so it does a good job chopping up heavy root networks and washing them away."
To keep productivity up, Fox used a hydrant instead of the AllJetVac water tank for an endless supply of water. "That way we worked continuously for five or six hours, cleaning out more than 300 feet of heavy roots in one day," said Fox. Besides its power, Fox also was pleased with the smoothness of the Vacall's water flow. "Other jet/vac machines are not as smooth," noted Barrett. "They start and stop a lot which interrupts productivity."
For the city of Statesville, the AllJetVac is a true multi-purpose machine. "We aren't clearing roots every day, but we are using it for something," said Fox. "Typically, it's cleaning storm drains. But recently, the city bought a piece of land and we used the Vacall to pump out septic tanks. "Whatever we can use it for, we use it," Fox added. "Smart controls make it easy to operate and the power lets us do a lot of different jobs with it about every day."
